What to Expect

Initial Contact and First Session

Initial Phone Consultation. After you reach out via email or phone call, we will schedule an initial phone consultation where we will assess whether it will be a good fit. I will ask you about what's bringing you to therapy at this time and what you are hoping to get out of therapy. If you've been in therapy before, I will want to know what has worked well for you and what hasn't worked for you in the past. We will also do a risk assessment to see if you are a good fit for outpatient care. This is also your chance to get a sense of me, how I work, and how we vibe. It's important to find a therapist who feels like a good fit, so I welcome any and all questions you may have.

First Session. During our first session, we will discuss in greater detail what you want for yourself out of therapy. I will also invite you to share with me what you think is important for me to know about you. I may ask you questions about your past so that I can get a greater understanding of who you are, where you come from, and what's important to you. I welcome you to share openly with me about how you're feeling about our relationship and our work together.

Fees

Please contact me to inquire about fees. My fee reflects the average cost for psychotherapy in the Bay Area. I offer a sliding scale on a case by case basis, subject to availability.

I currently do not accept any type of insurance. Many insurance companies cover out-of-network mental health care, and I am happy to provide an itemized receipt of services. You can contact your insurance company to see if they offer reimbursement for psychotherapy.

If you need a lower fee, here is a resource list of low fee clinics in San Francisco.

Policies

Sessions are typically at a frequency of once a week for 50 minutes. For couples and families, sometimes we will decide to have 75 minute sessions.

All sessions are currently being held in person at my office in Hayes Valley or through the SimplePractice telehealth video platform.

My cancellation policy takes into consideration the following factors:
  • therapy is a commitment that you are making for your personal growth or your family
  • I reserve time in my schedule specifically for you
  • flexibility is needed because life happens
If you can’t make your session, we will try to make it up through telehealth or rescheduling to a different time around the same week. I provide 4 free cancellations per year, or 1 free cancellation every 3 months if we have been working together for less than a year. If you miss more than 4 sessions in a year, you will be charged the full fee for any additional sessions missed. While I appreciate advanced notice of cancellations, I do not have a policy around the timing of your cancellation. If you are late for a session, you will lose that session time because I won’t be able to go over.
