What to Expect

Beginning Therapy

It is very important to find a therapist that you like and feel able to take on the investment of time, money, and effort required for lasting change. I usually begin with a brief phone consultation, followed by a few sessions to determine the fit. After that point, we will either begin meeting regularly, or I will collaborate with you to find a provider who may be a better fit.

My office is located on the 3rd floor of 414 Gough St. in Suite 6. There is a door code to get into the building, 2 flights of stairs, and another door code to enter Suite 6. My office fits families of up to 4 people comfortably.

Fees

My fees for therapy are on a sliding scale based on your financial circumstance:

Individual therapy: $200 - $250 for a 50 minute session
Couples or family therapy: $230 - $280 for a 50 minute session, $340 - $390 for a 75 minute session

As an out-of-network insurance provider for insurance plans and carriers, I can provide you with a statement of services which you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. In this case, many insurance companies will reimburse you directly for treatment. If you are interested in receiving reimbursement you may want to call your insurance company and ask the following questions:
  • Are out-of-network providers of mental health services covered?
  • If so, what amount or percentage of sessions are covered?
  • Do I have an out-of-network deductible?
  • Is there a limit to the number of sessions that may be covered?
  • Is pre-authorization required?
  • What information do they require for reimbursement?

I accept credit cards, debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards (so you can use pre-tax income).

Policies

Sessions are typically at a frequency of once a week for 50 minutes. For couples and families, sometimes we will decide to have 75 minute sessions.

All sessions are currently being held in person at my office in Hayes Valley or through a HIPAA compliant version of Zoom.

My cancellation policy takes into consideration the following factors:
  • therapy is a commitment that you are making for your personal growth or your family
  • I reserve time in my schedule specifically for you
  • flexibility is needed because life happens

If you can’t make your session, we will try to make it up through telehealth or rescheduling to a different time around the same week. I provide a month's worth of free cancellations per year (i.e. 4 cancellations if we meet weekly, 2 cancellations if we meet every other week, and 8 cancellations if we meet 2x a week). All cancellation and reschedule requests (with the exception of sickness) must be made at least 48 hours before the start of your session time. If you cancel within 48 hours or miss more than the allowed number of free cancellations in a year, you will be charged the full fee for any sessions missed.
